Javier Milei supports Bitcoin in his victory in the Argentine presidential primary election

In a surprising turn of events, Javier Milei, the libertarian candidate from the “La Libertad Avanza” party, has emerged victorious in the primary presidential election in Argentina. With 90% of the votes counted, Milei secured 30.5% of the votes, outranking candidates from “Juntos por el Cambio” and “Unidos por la Patria,” who received 28% and 27%, respectively.

Milei, who strongly advocates for the elimination of central banks and has expressed support for Bitcoin, believes that the central bank is a “scam” that enables politicians to deceive people through inflationary taxes. He considers Bitcoin a means to return money to its original creators- the private sector.

While Milei favors Bitcoin, he has not proposed its use as legal tender in Argentina like El Salvador. Instead, he has urged the “dollarization” of the economy, which currently suffers from rampant inflation.

As no candidate is likely to claim more than 45% of today’s polling, a general election will be held in October, where only the winners of each party will contest. If no one secures 45% of the vote, a final runoff will be held in November.
