The European Parliament has voted in favor of forming a wide-ranging European digital wallet with the aim of enabling and protecting the digital identity of European citizens.
It is expected that this wallet will allow citizens to identify and authenticate themselves online without the need for commercial service providers.
The amendments included in the European Parliamentary Committee on Industry, Research and Energy ensure the adoption of the evidence-based standard without identity verification in these amendments.
Discussions on the final form of the legislation are expected to begin immediately after the vote in the European Parliament.
